Cycle-Syncing

Cycle syncing is the practice of aligning your lifestyle — how you eat, move, sleep, and care for your skin — with the four phases of your hormonal cycle. It’s not a wellness trend; it’s a strategy backed by biology.
Your hormones fluctuate constantly throughout the month. These shifts impact not only how you feel but how your skin behaves — influencing oil production, hydration, sensitivity, and inflammation¹.

Your menstrual cycle is made up of four phases. Each one has a unique hormonal profile, which shows up in your skin.

Menstrual (Days 1–5): Repair + Hydrate

Hormones like estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest. Skin often feels dry, sensitive, or inflamed². This is the time to focus on barrier repair, soothing support, and deep hydration.

Follicular (Days 6–13): Brighten + Renew

Estrogen begins to rise, which supports collagen production, elasticity, and hydration³. Skin looks brighter and more
resilient. It's the perfect phase for gentle exfoliation and renewal.

Ovulatory (Days 14–16): Balance + Prevent

Estrogen peaks and testosterone rises, giving your skin a plump, radiant look — but also increasing oil production⁴.
Now’s the time for antioxidants, clarifying ingredients, and preventative care.

Luteal (Days 17–28): Target Blemishes + Soothe Inflammation

As progesterone surges, so does sebum. Skin becomes oilier, pores clog more easily, and inflammation spikes. Around 80% of women experience premenstrual breakouts during this phase⁵. This is when blemish-targeting, anti-inflammatory care matters most.

Your skin responds to the hormonal signals it receives.

Estrogen supports barrier function, collagen, and hydration.

Progesterone triggers increased sebum and swelling, which can trap oil.

Testosterone boosts oil production and is linked to hormonal breakouts when unbalanced.

These shifts affect your skin’s texture, tone, oiliness, and sensitivity⁶. They also change how your skin reacts to
ingredients — what works during one week may not be right the next.

Start with your period: Day 1 of bleeding is Day 1 of your cycle.

If you menstruate regularly, you can follow a general timeline:

Days 1–5: Menstrual

Days 6–13: Follicular

Days 14–16: Ovulatory

Days 17–28: Luteal

If you're not currently menstruating — due to hormonal birth control or an irregular cycle — you can sync based on
symptoms. Here are common signs for each phase:

Menstrual: Fatigue, cramps, low energy, dry/sensitive skin

Follicular: Increased energy, clearer skin, bright tone

Ovulatory: Peak energy, glowy/plump skin, possible oiliness

Luteal: Mood shifts, cravings, breakouts, dull or congested skin

Apps like Clue, Flo, or Natural Cycles can help track symptoms and patterns.

Cycle-synced skincare is about giving your skin what it needs — when it needs it. Rather than applying the same routine
every day, this approach supports your skin through hormonal shifts.

Most traditional skincare was designed around the idea that skin falls into fixed categories like oily, dry, or sensitive. That model ignores the very real hormonal patterns that influence your skin each month⁷.

Muhza was built to challenge that. Our four-phase system syncs with your cycle:

Menstrual: Hydration + barrier support

Follicular: Gentle exfoliation + brightening

Ovulatory: Balancing + oil control

Luteal: Blemish treatment + inflammation relief

We don’t believe in overcomplicated routines — just smarter timing. Backed by science, rooted in rhythm.
